David Attenborough is 100!

At St Andrew’s, we have been excited to celebrate David Attenborough Day as we marked the incredible milestone of Sir David Attenborough reaching 100 years old. Throughout the day, the children explored his inspiring work, learning about wildlife, nature and the importance of caring for our planet. It was a wonderful opportunity for pupils to reflect on how one person’s passion and dedication can make such a positive difference to the world around us.

In Pippins, we have been thinking of ways we can help to save the planet. The children decorated their own leaves and wrote ideas about how they can make a difference, which will be displayed as part of our David Attenborough display.

Celebration Assembly

Today’s assembly was a wonderful celebration of the many accomplishments across our school, as well as our celebrations for David Attenborough Day. Pupils from every class were recognised for their effort, enthusiasm and dedication to their learning, while also reflecting on the importance of caring for our world and the natural environment.

This Week in Apples!

This week, the children have been exploring a variety of vegetables as part of our growing topic. They enjoyed printing with vegetables and using their senses to guess which vegetable was hidden inside our Curiosity Box. The children also practised their chopping skills by cutting leafy vegetables and helping to make delicious tomato soup for everyone to taste. As part of our focused activity, the children created their own Mr Potato characters and had the opportunity to try a range of different vegetables during snack time.

Also in Apples, we made party pizzas to celebrate David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. The children decorated their pizzas with vegetables to link with our theme for this week. We also created a range of animal habitats in the garden for the children to explore, inspired by David Attenborough’s love of nature and wildlife.

While some of Year 5 were away on their residential trip to Cardiff, the pupils who remained in school had a fantastic week filled with exciting and creative activities. They spent time exploring the wonderful world of animals by watching live webcams from the famous San Diego Zoo, where they observed a variety of animals in their habitats before drawing detailed pictures of their favourites. The children also enjoyed developing their cooking skills by making their own delicious pizzas and creating tasty ice-cream treats. In Forest School, they had lots of fun toasting and making s’mores around the fire, enjoying the outdoors together and building special memories with their friends. It was a busy and enjoyable week with plenty of opportunities for creativity, teamwork and fun.

Pears Forest School

This week in Forest School, Pears had a wonderful time making their own toast over the bonfire. The children were extremely sensible around the fire and listened carefully to all safety instructions. They were excited to choose their toppings, with options including butter, jam or even both!

Each slice of bread was placed on a wooden skewer, allowing the children to carefully hold and turn their toast over the fire until it was cooked just the way they liked it, with some choosing theirs extra golden brown!
