Achievement Assembly

Today’s Achievement Assembly was a wonderful celebration of the many successes and accomplishments of our pupils. Children from across the school were recognised with class awards for their hard work, positive attitudes and dedication to learning.

We also celebrated a range of impressive out-of-school achievements, with children proudly sharing certificates and awards from activities including swimming, karate and gymnastics, to name but a few. It is always fantastic to hear about the talents and achievements our pupils develop beyond the classroom.

Special congratulations went to Anastasia, Mila and Joseph, who received awards for perseverance, respect and friendship following their residential trip last week. They demonstrated outstanding qualities throughout the experience and were excellent role models for their peers. Well done to everyone who was recognised in today’s assembly!

Children were recognised for their fantastic efforts with Class Dojo awards, celebrating positive attitudes, hard work and excellent behaviour. We also presented our House Captain awards for attendance and house points, recognising the commitment and teamwork shown by each house throughout the week. A huge congratulations to Rowan House, who proudly won both the attendance and house points awards.

Good Luck, Miss Fowles

Next Thursday, we will sadly be saying goodbye to Miss Fowles, who has worked both as a Reception Teaching Assistant and within our Wrap Around Care provision. Miss Fowles will be leaving St Andrew’s to take up an exciting new role as a nanny.

Miss Fowles has been a valued member of our school community since joining us in June 2025. Prior to this, she completed part of her professional qualification with us as a student, making St Andrew’s a very special part of her journey into childcare and education.

Throughout her time with us, Miss Fowles has shown kindness, dedication and care towards all of the children she has worked with, and she will be greatly missed by pupils, staff and families alike. We would like to thank her for all of her hard work and commitment to the school.

We wish Miss Fowles every happiness and success in her new role. Goodbye and good luck from everyone at St Andrew’s.

This week in Pears

Pears Class have been enjoying learning all about the story The Enormous Turnip. Throughout the week, the children have been exploring the story in lots of exciting and hands-on ways. They have been comparing different sizes and using language such as big, bigger, biggest, small and enormous during their activities.

The children also had great fun acting out the story together, taking turns to play the different characters and working as a team to pull the giant turnip from the ground. In our outdoor learning, Pears became little gardeners, digging for vegetables and exploring the soil whilst developing their curiosity and fine motor skills.

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged in their learning and using their imagination throughout the activities.

Year 5's Amazing Residential

Last week, Year 5 enjoyed an unforgettable Residential trip to Cardiff, where 36 pupils took part in an exciting two-night adventure packed full of memorable experiences and learning opportunities.

Our trip began with a visit to the fantastic science centre, Techniquest, where pupils immersed themselves in a range of interactive, hands-on activities that sparked curiosity and excitement. Afterwards, we enjoyed ice cream in Cardiff Bay before ending the evening with a fun-filled night of bowling.

Day 2 was another action-packed adventure as we travelled in style by Aquabus to visit the National Museum of Wales and Cardiff Castle. Pupils explored the impressive castle grounds, took in spectacular views from the top of the Norman Fort and ventured down into the fascinating World War II bunkers. In the evening, we enjoyed a relaxing walk along the barrage and spent time together in the park as the sun set, a lovely way to round off a busy day.

Before returning home, we made one final stop at Bristol Zoo, where pupils were thrilled to see giraffes, bears and gorillas, including an exciting gorilla feeding time.

Throughout the trip, the children represented St Andrew’s impeccably, demonstrating our school values of respect and collaboration at all times. They showed wonderful maturity, enthusiasm and gratitude, embracing every opportunity offered to them. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them for making the residential such a fantastic success.

This week in Apples

This week in Apples, we have been reading the story “Orange, Pear, Apple, Bear”. This has supported our learning about fruit while helping to extend the children’s vocabulary and communication skills.

At the art table, the children explored a range of painting techniques. They used bubble wrap to print strawberries and cotton wool to create grapes, developing their fine motor skills as they carefully held and controlled the wooden pegs.

In our curiosity box, the children enjoyed exploring a variety of fruits and practising naming them independently.

Outside, the children had great fun playing in citrus-scented water, encouraging sensory exploration and imaginative play. They matched fruit blocks to the correct fruits to develop their problem-solving skills and used wooden hammers to carefully tap golf tees into watermelon, strengthening their hand-eye coordination.

During Forest School, the children helped Beth toast bread over the fire before spreading strawberry jam on top, enjoying a wonderful hands-on outdoor experience.

We have had a lovely and busy week, filled with exciting learning opportunities and lots of fun!

Year 1's Exciting Learning

Year 1 have been learning about Judaism, exploring how Jewish people live and the festivals they celebrate. They learned about the festival of Sukkot and enjoyed creating their own ‘sukkahs’ (huts) in the forest.

The children showed great empathy and understanding towards those who celebrate this special festival, while also demonstrating fantastic teamwork, cooperation and perseverance as they worked together to build their sukkahs.
