CBBC Newsround Visits St Andrew’s for
Children in Need Sponsored Bounce!

St Andrew’s CE School and Nursery had an unforgettable morning as CBBC Newsround arrived on site to broadcast live from our Children in Need Sponsored Bounce! Excitement filled the School Hall as cameras, microphones and presenters set up to capture the incredible energy and enthusiasm of our pupils.

Children from across the school, along with plenty of eager staff, took turns to bounce throughout the day, doing their part to raise vital funds for this fantastic charity. Laughter, determination and lots of Pudsey ears could be seen everywhere as each class joined in, cheering one another on and helping
make a real difference.

The live broadcast gave our pupils a wonderful opportunity to shine, showing the nation how dedicated and community-spirited St Andrew’s truly is. We are so proud of everyone who took part and helped spread the message of
kindness and support.

A huge thank you to CBBC Newsround for visiting, and an even bigger thank you to our amazing children and staff for bouncing their hearts out for
Children in Need!

🦉 This Week in Nursery: Discovering the Dark! 🌙

This week, we’ve been enjoying the story The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark and learning all about the dark through play, exploration, and creativity!

✨ Highlights from our week:

• The children loved exploring the dark water tray.

• We made fluffy baby owls using pine cones, cotton wool, and googly eyes — so fluffy!

• Our Play dough owls came to life with feathery wings!

• The Owl Babies story tray inspired lots of storytelling and language as children retold the story in their own words.

• Outside, we built a bird hide and used binoculars to spot real birds in the garden — we saw lots!

🍫 For Clare’s focus this week, the children explored melting chocolate and talked about how it changes with heat. They covered apples in melted chocolate, added sprinkles, and discussed their observations. Best of all, they got to take them home and eat them!

Well done, Nursery! 🌟

Celebration Assembly Highlights

Yesterday, we came together for our whole-school Celebration Assembly, recognising the hard work, achievements, and positive contributions of our pupils. Children were awarded Outside Achiever Certificates, celebrating their accomplishments beyond the classroom. We also presented our Class Values Awards, recognising those who have consistently demonstrated our core values in their daily school life.

Our newly elected School Council representatives proudly received their badges, ready to begin their important role in giving pupils a voice across the school. To finish, we were delighted to present the Photography Trophy, which was awarded to Oak House for their impressive creativity and teamwork.

It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate success and share in the achievements of our school community.

On Monday, Year 3 stepped back thousands of years into the Mesolithic and Neolithic Stone Age during their unforgettable trip to Bishops Wood. The children didn’t just learn about history, they lived it!

🏕 Building Nomadic Shelters

  • Working together like Stone Age families, pupils built shelters using willow branches, rope, and animal skins.

  • They discovered how nomadic people relied on natural materials to create homes that could be moved as they followed food sources.

🍂 Hunter-Gatherer Life

  • The class experienced the challenge of hunter-gathering, learning how survival depended on teamwork and resourcefulness.

  • They explored how Stone Age people foraged for seeds, nuts, and berries, and hunted animals for food and clothing.

🔥 Sparks of Innovation

  • Using flint stones, the children tried their hand at making sparks—just as Stone Age people did to light fires for warmth and cooking.

  • This hands-on activity showed how vital fire was to everyday life.

🌾 From Seeds to Flour

  • Pupils ground seeds with stones to make flour, understanding how the Neolithic shift to farming transformed human life.

  • They saw firsthand how food preparation evolved from simple gathering to early agriculture.

🎨 Cave Art Creativity

  • Inspired by ancient cave paintings, the children created their own Stone Age drawings, using natural symbols and animals.

  • This gave them a glimpse into how early humans expressed ideas, beliefs, and stories through art.

Forest Fun with Fire and Sparklers for Pears🔥✨

This week in Forest School, the children had an exciting and memorable experience exploring fire safety. Together, we carefully lit a small campfire and talked about how it looked, sounded, and smelled, from the crackling of the wood to the gentle flicker of the flames. The children were fascinated as they learnt about how to stay safe around fire.

To celebrate Bonfire Night, each child also had the chance to hold a sparkler under close supervision. They were amazed by the bright, glittering sparks and the fizzing sound they made! Afterwards, we gathered to reflect on the experience, sharing words to describe what we had seen, heard, and felt.

It was a wonderful session full of curiosity, careful listening, and excitement! Well done, Pears!

This week in Apples, our Topic Book has been Dear Zoo, and the children have absolutely loved exploring the story. Inspired by all the different animals, we transformed our Role Play Area into a busy Vet’s Surgery! The children have shown wonderful care and compassion as they treated the animals, bandaged their paws, and made sure everyone was feeling better. It’s been lovely to see their imagination and teamwork shine through during play.
