Chess club setup and moves

Chess club set off to a brilliant start. We learnt some key rules.
On Tuesday chess club brought children with a range of understanding and experience together. Those that knew the rules were able to play some competitive matches and the focus with our beginners was on setting up the board and how each piece can move. The children developed this knowledge well and were able to begin to have some matches.
Key rules for this week:
- Only the knit can jump.
- Pawns can only move forwards but all other pieces go forwards and backwards.
- Pawns take diagonally.
- You must move your king out of check.
If you get chance at home, please find the time to practise setting up the board and recap how the pieces move.

Next week we will be focusing on getting into check and winning the game through check mate before we commence some tournament matches towards the end of the term.
