How St Andrews Support Children in Therapy

Every child is different, and sometimes they need a little extra support to feel calm, confident, and ready to learn. Sharons role is to provide a safe and caring space where children can explore their feelings, build resilience, and discover tools that help them cope with life’s ups and downs.

Here are some of the ways she supports the children:

Mindfulness & Meditation

Gentle, calming practices that help children pause, breathe, and feel more settled in themselves.

EFT (Tapping)

A simple technique where children tap on pressure points to release stress, manage worries, and feel calmer.

Therapeutic Stories

Specially chosen or created stories that help children understand their feelings, make sense of challenges, and see positive solutions.

Zones of Regulation

A child-friendly way of recognising emotions and learning how to move from feeling upset, worried, or angry back to feeling calm and in control.

Play Therapy

Through play, children can express what they’re feeling inside in a safe and natural way.

Art Therapy

Creative activities like drawing, painting, crafts and sand play allow children to explore emotions when words are hard to find.

Talking Therapy

A chance for children to talk openly in a space where they feel heard, understood, and never judged.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Techniques)

Child-friendly strategies that support children to notice unhelpful thoughts and find more positive ways of thinking.

Building Confidence & Friendships

Gentle support to help children believe in themselves, connect with others, and feel a stronger sense of belonging.

Sharon tailors support to the needs of each child. Some children enjoy play or art, while others feel most comfortable talking or learning calming techniques. There’s no “one size fits all” — She adapts therapy to what feels right for your child.

Most importantly, therapy is warm, gentle, and child-centred. Her aim is to help every child feel heard, valued, and equipped with the tools they need to flourish both in school and at home.

Sharon is open to supporting parents where needed, offering guidance and practical ideas that can make life at home a little easier.
