House Captain Elections

This afternoon, our Year 5 children were incredibly brave and put themselves forward to represent their houses as house captains.
We are incredibly proud of all of those who stepped out of their comfort zone to give a speech in front of their entire house. This takes a huge amount of courage and we are grateful for the example they have set to the younger children in their willingness to serve and support the school to be the best that it can be. The standard of the speeches was impressive and it was clear that a lot of effort had gone into the preparation.
In assembly and throughout the week, we have been exploring democracy, how people vote and the types of qualities we should seek in a leader. It was wonderful to hear and see these qualities coming through in the speeches and the children putting themselves forward. We learnt about the importance of a secret ballot and all elections were held in this way.
We have a wide range of leadership opportunities throughout the school and for those that were not elected today, there are plenty of jobs to go around, from forest school leaders to community leaders. Further details about the variety of leadership opportunities can be found here. Year 5 children will be appointed a leadership position that they are keen to do throughout this week. As part of our school enrichment, we want all to have the opportunity to lead.
