Collective worship
At St Andrew's, we have collective worship every day. This is an opportunity for us to come together as a school, nursery and class to reflect, grow in understanding and find peace and joy in learning.
Each half-term we have a focus value and across a two year period our assemblies cover the twelve values above.
Collective worship regularly includes a focus on the core British values of democracy, rule of law, respect, tolerance and individual liberty. We use events that are planned into our school year to help deepen children's understanding of, and appreication for, these important values.
We commence our collective worship with our school prayer and our candles are lit to show the trinity by a member of our CREW group. Whilst this may take the form of Christian worship, it is open and we use language which is neutral. For example, we would say 'Christians believe that...'.
Spirituality is also included in our Collective worship planning. We seek to deepen our children ability to feel connected with themselves, with others and our world. The spiritual capacities that we seek to instil are: authenticity, self-compassion, resilience, gratitude, intuition, creativity, stillness, meaningful work and joy.
Another feature of our collective worship program is our behaviour curriculum and zones of regulation. During these sessions we focus on the ability to succeed and develop resilience, an understanding of ourselves and what our expectations for behaviour and learning are in our community.
It is our belief that by supporting our pupils to be grounded with good values and the capacity to connect, we are help develop well-rounded and whole hearted individuals.
