House System

Our house system seeks to deepen our children's understanding of our school values, but also bring enrichment. Our children feel a strong sense of belonging to our school, but in their houses they are also part of something bigger than themselves. They learn to strategise and collaborate through our wide range of house events. They learn the lessons of triumph and defeat.

All dojos that children earn are converted into house points and contribute towards the house cup which is awarded to the leading house each half-term.

Children are assigned to a house in reception and remain with that group until they leave the school. Siblings and family members often find themselves assigned to the same house, but this is not a rule. Their individual characters may align them more closely to an alternative. Throughout the year children compete in the following:

  • Half-termly attendance trophy
  • Tug of war

  • Photography competition
  • Poetry competition
  • Art/colouring or drawing competition
  • Pancake races
  • Easter egg hunt
  • Ocean's Day/Litter picking
  • Sports Day
  • Maths problem solving escape rooms

Each year we mix up house events and are always looking to add new additions to make these events exciting and meaningful. Whilst it is exciting to win events, we know and celebrate losing graciously and encourage children to congratulate their competitors and hold their heads high knowing that they have given of their best.

The responsibilities of House Captains:

  • To be a role model for your house by following the school rules and demonstrating appropriate behaviour around school

  • To inspire your house to do their best in house events and support their house in defeat by showing resilience and positivity

  • To be an ambassador for the school by greeting visitors and sharing positive aspects of our school with them

  • Represent the school at events such as the Remembrance Parade and John Martin's service

  • To support leading the celebration assembly on the first Wednesday of each term

  • Award prizes and certificates to members of your house during celebration events

  • To inspire your house to live by our school values and earn dojos by giving of their best
