Residential visits

During your child's time at St Andrew's CE School and Nursery, we offer two opportunities for the children to attend a residential visit. Both of these visits are for two nights, either a Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday. The children gain such incredible memories from these opportunities to grow in independence and spend time with their friends in this way.

Year 4 Residential to The Pioneer Centre

By Jude

In April 2025, I went on a school residential trip to the Pioneer Centre in Kidderminster—and it was awesome! It was the first time I stayed away from home for more than one night, which felt a bit scary but for my mum more than me.

We did loads of cool activities. My favourites were the high ropes and archery. We also did raft building (some people fell in), an obstacle course, low ropes, caving, and abseiling.

One of my absolute favourite moments was hitting a bullseye in archery! I couldn’t believe it—I aimed, let go, and boom! Right in the middle. Everyone cheered and I felt like Robin Hood. Another epic moment was doing the leap of faith on the high ropes. I had to climb a super tall, wobbly tower, stand on the top (I wasn’t scared at all by it though), and then jump to grab a trapeze bar and I caught it. Then I did an upside-down Spider-Man pose on the way down. It was the coolest thing ever.

I also enjoyed sharing a room with my friends. We stayed up chatting (but not too late!). I had to be more responsible, like remembering my stuff and keeping my area tidy.

The trip was really fun and everything was well organised. The teachers and staff were nice and helped us feel safe. The food wasn’t my favourite, but I still ate enough to keep going for all the activities.

I’ll always remember this trip because I tried new things, faced my fears, and had loads of fun with my friends. I hope we get to go again someday!

Year 5 Residential to Cardiff Bay

In Year 5, we are proud to offer pupils the opportunity to take part in a three-day residential visit to Cardiff Bay – a truly enriching experience that helps children grow both academically and personally. This carefully planned trip combines cultural, political and scientific learning with opportunities to develop independence, resilience and teamwork.

Pupils explore inspiring places such as Cardiff Castle and the Senedd, making history and democracy come alive in a meaningful way. At the Cardiff Natural Museum and Techniquest Centre, children engage with over 100 interactive exhibits and a live science show, sparking curiosity and encouraging critical thinking. Alongside these educational experiences, shared leisure activities such as bowling and enjoying ice cream give pupils the chance to strengthen friendships and create lasting memories.

For many children, this is also their first experience of city life, opening their eyes to new environments and broadening their horizons. The maturity and confidence gained during this trip make it a highlight of the Year 5 journey and a unique part of what we offer at our school.
